My First-Time Adventure in Coron: A Paradise Discovered
Coron, with its turquoise waters, towering limestone cliffs, and breathtaking lagoons, had always been a dream destination for me. When I finally had the chance to visit this tropical paradise, I was beyond excited. From the moment I arrived, I knew I was in for an unforgettable adventure. This blog is a recount of my first experience in Coron, a place that instantly captured my heart.
Touching down in Busuanga Airport, the gateway to Coron, I was immediately struck by the beauty of the island. The air was fresh, the skies were clear, and the landscape looked like something straight out of a postcard. A short drive later, I found myself in Coron Town, where I would be staying for the next few days.
After settling into my cozy accommodation, I decided to take a walk around the town. Coron Town had a laid-back vibe, with friendly locals and charming little shops and restaurants lining the streets. I grabbed a refreshing coconut drink and took in the views of the nearby bay, filled with boats waiting to take eager travelers on island-hopping adventures.
Exploring the Famous Lagoons
On my second day, I embarked on one of Coron’s famous island-hopping tours. I had heard so much about the stunning lagoons and crystal-clear waters, and I couldn’t wait to see them for myself. The first stop was the renowned Kayangan Lake, often called the cleanest lake in the Philippines. The short hike up to the viewpoint was worth every step, as the panoramic view of the surrounding cliffs and emerald-green water was absolutely mesmerizing.
Taking a dip in Kayangan Lake was like swimming in a dream. The water was so clear that I could see all the way to the bottom, and the serenity of the place made me feel completely at peace. After Kayangan, we headed to Twin Lagoon, another iconic spot in Coron. The experience of swimming through the narrow gap between the towering cliffs to enter the hidden lagoon was thrilling. The contrast between the warm and cool waters created a unique sensation, and the beauty of the lagoon left me speechless.
Snorkeling and Wreck Diving
Coron is famous not only for its lagoons but also for its rich marine life and World War II shipwrecks. I had always wanted to try wreck diving, and Coron was the perfect place for my first dive experience. With a professional dive instructor guiding me, I explored the sunken remains of a Japanese warship. The eerie beauty of the wreck, now home to vibrant corals and marine life, was both fascinating and humbling.
For those who prefer to stay closer to the surface, snorkeling in Coron is just as rewarding. I spent the rest of the day snorkeling in Siete Pecados, a marine sanctuary teeming with colorful fish and coral reefs. It was like swimming in an underwater garden, and I could have stayed there for hours, completely captivated by the beauty of the marine life.
To soothe my tired muscles, I made my way to Maquinit Hot Springs, a natural saltwater hot spring surrounded by mangroves. The warm, therapeutic waters were the perfect way to relax after the hike, and I spent the evening soaking in the peaceful atmosphere, listening to the sounds of nature around me.
On my last day, I couldn’t resist squeezing in one final adventure—a visit to Malcapuya Island, known for its powdery white sand and turquoise waters. The island was a true slice of paradise, and I spent the day lounging on the beach, swimming in the crystal-clear water, and taking in the beauty around me.
As my trip came to an end, I couldn’t help but feel a bittersweet mix of emotions. Coron had exceeded all my expectations. Its natural beauty, friendly people, and unforgettable adventures made it one of the most special places I’ve ever visited. I left with a heart full of memories and a longing to return someday.
My first time in Coron was everything I had hoped for and more. From the stunning lagoons to the rich marine life, every day was filled with new discoveries and breathtaking moments. Coron is truly a paradise for nature lovers, adventurers, and anyone seeking a peaceful escape. I know that this trip won’t be my last, and I can’t wait to come back to this beautiful island and explore even more of its wonders.
