πŸ‡πŸ‡° Welcoming 2014 in Hong Kong: A Trip Down Memory Lane

As the clock ticked closer to midnight on December 31, 2013, I found myself in one of the most magical places on Earth—Hong Kong. This city has always had a special place in my heart, and spending New Year’s Eve here, to welcome 2014, felt like coming full circle. It was a trip filled with nostalgia, adventure, and an overwhelming sense of joy. From exploring Disneyland to revisiting cherished spots from a previous trip with my mom, every moment was filled with warmth and excitement.

The first highlight of the trip was, of course, Disneyland. There’s something enchanting about ringing in the New Year surrounded by childhood favorites—Mickey, Minnie, and the whole gang. Even as an adult, Disneyland has this ability to transport you to a world of wonder, where you can leave your worries at the gate and let yourself believe in magic. Walking through the park, with all the festive lights and music, felt like a dream. The fireworks display was nothing short of spectacular, lighting up the night sky as the countdown to 2014 began. It was a moment of pure bliss, standing there with thousands of people, all of us united by the shared excitement of a fresh start.

But this trip wasn’t just about Disney. Hong Kong has so much more to offer, and I was determined to experience it all. Bar hopping and shopping were definitely on the agenda, and the city didn’t disappoint. Hong Kong is a shopper's paradise—there’s something about walking through bustling markets, finding hidden gems, and experiencing the city's vibrant nightlife. Whether it was luxury malls or quirky street stalls, I was in my element, soaking up the energy of the city.

One of the most exciting parts of the trip was indulging in Hong Kong’s street food. There’s a reason this city is famous for its culinary scene, and I made it a mission to try everything. From dim sum to egg waffles, each bite was a burst of flavor. The street vendors, with their sizzling pans and tempting aromas, were impossible to resist. Hong Kong’s food is an experience in itself, and I left every meal with a happy heart and a full stomach.

What made this trip even more special was the chance to revisit some of the places I had gone with my mom when we visited Hong Kong way back in 2010. This time, it felt different, like I was seeing the city through a new lens. Going back to The Peak was one of those moments. Standing at the top, looking down at the breathtaking skyline of Hong Kong, I felt a rush of memories from the past, yet at the same time, an appreciation for how much has changed since my last visit. The view was just as awe-inspiring, if not more, and it reminded me of the connection I have with this city.

Ocean Park was another stop on my nostalgia tour. I remember how thrilled I was the first time I visited, and going back in 2014 brought back that same sense of excitement. The rides, the marine life, and the beautiful landscapes all felt so refreshing, like I was experiencing them for the first time again. It was a day filled with laughter and thrills, a perfect way to revisit a piece of my past while making new memories in the process.

There’s something about Hong Kong that just feels like home. Maybe it’s the blend of old and new, or the way the city pulses with life at every corner, but whatever it is, Hong Kong has a hold on my heart. Walking through the streets, whether it was in the lively markets or quieter areas, gave me this incredible sense of belonging. It’s a city that evolves with time, but at the same time, holds onto its essence—one that resonates deeply with me.

Spending New Year’s in Hong Kong was more than just a holiday; it was a chance to reconnect with a place that’s been a part of my journey. It was about reliving old memories while creating new ones, rediscovering the magic of a city that has never lost its charm. Hong Kong welcomed 2014 with fireworks, food, fun, and a warmth that will stay with me forever. This trip reminded me that no matter how much time passes, there are some places that will always feel like home.

Here’s to more trips, more memories, and always finding my way back to Hong Kong.
